Some of the once-abundant erotic works of ancient Egypt, many of which have been lost or destroyed over the centuries, are presented here in words and images. The ancient Egyptian erotic world comes alive in fragments of poetry and literature and in magnificent color pictures and detailed drawings of sculptures and etchings. Discussed is the period of dynastic rule in Egypt, when the deified pharaohs delighted in erotic escapades that rivaled those portrayed in India's Kama Sutra and Persia's One Thousand and One Nights.

El-Qhamid, a librarian at the Archeological Institute of Cairo, has collected fragments of ancient Egyptian erotica for over 20 years. In parallel, Joseph Toledano, an active archeologist who organises rescue digs in the Mediterranean region, has collected quotations of and testimonies to Egyptian erotica from sources that were not Egyptian - the Bible, for instance. The combination of these two scholars' work presents the reader, for the first time, with an accurate picture of the ancient Egyptian erotic world in fragments of poetry and literature and in magnificent colour pictures and detailed drawings.
