Practical Illustrated Guide to Dog Training

Author(s): Robert Patsy & Pickett Parry

Natural History

The secret to living harmoniously with your canine companion is proper training, and this book covers all the basic principles that a first-time owner needs to know. Focusing on making training easy and fun, this book will help owners understand the basics of dog behaviour. A section on training principles equips dog owners with a solid grasp of the theory behind training - using rewards without punishment - and features a useful guide to canine body language. Practical advice is given for phasing out rewards over time, and ensuring your dog will follow your commands from a distance in the park. With practical, step-by-step instructions, this book is an accessible guide that responsible owners cannot afford to be without.

Product Information

Patsy Parry has been training puppies and their owners since the early 1990s. She holds a Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour and Training, and heads the education committee for the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Patsy started Able Trainers in 1996 because of the lack of reward-based training clubs in her area. Hundreds of dogs have since passed through her doors, learning fun, reward-based training methods, and becoming confident, easy to live with and a pleasure to own. She has written Puppies' Problems, chapters in Teach Yourself Dog Training, and The Active Dog, and many articles for various dog training magazines.
